4 Reasons to live in Jamaica Plain

Updated: Feb 19, 2019

1. There are plenty of parks + recreation.

Jamaica Plain is home to much of the emerald necklace from Jamaica Pond to Franklin Park. These areas offer those outdoor adventurers trails for both running hard and biking easy. Want to get out on the water? Try out the community facilities for sailing and rowing. At Jamaica Pond, Courageous Sailing offers boating options from May 1st to October 31st at rates of $15-20 an hour or $45 for private lessons.

2. Shop local.

Jamaica Plain can give the foodie or the artsy type shopper’s paradox of choice. The neighborhood staple, City Feed and Supply, offers local food products and organic healthy options from around New England at (somewhat) reasonable prices. Looking to shop thrifty? Check out 40 South Street and their vintage selection of clothes from almost any era at realistic prices.

3. Drink like a local.

This neighborhood can give the crafty beer drinker an over the top selection - or the weekend day drinker a marathon day. There are plenty of local choice. However, start with some of the neighborhood’s highlights: the is Sam Adam’s Brewery and Brendan Behan Pub. Sam Adam’s Brewery may only serve as their pilot brewery, but their free hour-long tours are well worth it – ending, of course, with some great sampling.

4. It’s booming.

Just a quick pass through the neighborhood reveals its ongoing development and changes. Its easy access to the city and its vibrant, diverse culture keep the neighborhood growing and in high demand.
